Biography

ANDREA SARTORI’s blend of dub, jazz, disco and techno is on the up in the post-minimal world. Funk and fusion, game sounds, Musica Leggera – Sartori is a producer who refuses to be hemmed in. Successful on the tech-house circuit as DeepAlso, it’s the layered, experimental yet accessible music under his own name that is a specialty, and Sartori’s talent hasn’t gone unnoticed at Persona. Since stunning the crowd with refreshingly un-minimal sounds for his Berlin debut at Persona’s label night, he’s becoming notorious for his wild and funky synth-and-drum-machine live performances.

Founder of the Homework Festival and related label in Bologna– promoters of all things eclectic and interesting in the beautiful northern Italian city – Sartori has been producing since 1997. Under various monikers, he’s issued tracks on Germany’s Clubstar, I Am Records and Homework Records before joining Persona in 2007 for the release of his critically acclaimed debut full-length, Il Tagliacode.

Il Tagliacode, clearly a product of the 21st Century, was assembled from a large pool of live performances recorded at a jazz musician's retreat in Foligno, Italy. But it’s Satori’s skills of collage and composition which elevate the source material of soloists into a comprehensive whole, processing the click/stutter/buzz constants of modern electronic music through ancient spring reverbs, tape delays, and distortion pedals to create a vintage acoustic space.

Sortori followed up with the Phonosutura EP in early 2008. The title track combines techno loops and driving basslines with improvisational jazzy moments and has drawn comparisons with Laurent Garnier’s The Man With The Red Face.
